Reflecting

When the new year rolls around, thoughts often turn to resolutions and self-improvement.  I agree that it is exciting to think about the upcoming year, and all of the grand opportunities and possibilities it brings.  However, I think it's also important to reflect on the past year, and be thankful that we've made it through, a little wiser, stronger, and older.

These last few years have seen quite a flurry of life-altering events, and 2015 was no different.  Most notable was the birth of a baby girl, and the completion of our family of four.  My partner landed a dream job of sorts; the kind of job that you hope to keep until retirement.  Our eldest daughter moved to a French language school, and I love when she calls me "maman".  Crafting has been slow, but that's expected when you have a little baby around.

But hey, I'm not expecting 2016 to be dull either.  I'll be going back to my old job in a few short weeks, joining the ranks of millions of other working mothers in the search for a healthy balance between family, work, and myself.  However, this time around, I'm going to put more efforts towards my own health and happiness.  Nothing complicated: just enjoying simple and fresh meals, taking time for artistic endeavours, connecting with close friends, spending family time outdoors, using vacation days to do nothing much, and indulging in a few treats just for me, here and there.

And of course, I'm looking forward to spending another year right here, with you.

  1. Great to hear you are focusing on yourself more this year! It's definitely hard juggling family and work.

    1. Thanks! Who would have thought that you had to make a resolution to be better to yourself, and that wouldn't just come naturally.

  2. Good luck with returning to work and balancing family life. It must be so hard to get back into the mindset. Hope you will find some "me time" to enjoy. Also, I didn't know you like Aesop. It's such a nice brand and their products smell nice but oh so expensive. Well at least in Oz.

    1. Thanks Sheldon. I have a feeling that most of us are lacking "me time", no matter if you have kids to look after or not.

I've been wanting to buy Aesop products for a while now, but always felt I couldn't afford to spend all that cash on face cream, etc. However, recently I have switched my spending habits into buying less things overall, but buying only things I really love. Good excuse, eh!
